I have always concentrated on content as opposed to style. To many poetry experts, if they care to read on, the following poems may well be simplistic and naive in structure. If these poems have any merit, it is hopefully to be found in their message – the author is no saint but has been stumbling along the spiritual path as a Catholic Christian for a good number of years now, and the collection of poems that follow reflect some of his stumblings.
One of the great joys of writing poetry is finding unusual words and phrases, sometimes juxtaposing familiar words to create striking images and multi-layered meanings. I have tended to avoid this verbal alchemy in favour of plain words, in faithfulness to Jesus who spoke always in plain everyday language.
